A DAY IN THE FLATIRON DISTRICT

In case you are not from NYC, or you haven't been down to the FlatIron District in NYC, this is truly an Interior Design destination. Below are some of my favorite (secret) shopping showrooms, and restaurants.  Some of the showrooms are To The Trade Only, others are retail shops... Enjoy!!

THE CHIHULY EXHIBIT

If you haven't had a chance to get to the Chihuly exhibit at the NY Botanical Garden, you should go! We went at dusk, just as the summer light was fading.. What a wonderful and inspirational sight! The Seattle-based artist returns to the Bronx with an explosion of light and color that takes over the garden’s spilling over into its expansive grounds.

Dale Chihuly shows his art in his first major garden exhibition in New York in more than ten years. There are 20 installations set within NYBG’s landmark landscapes.

“Many of my forms are inspired by nature,” said Chihuly of the appeal of showing his work in botanical settings. “Putting them into gardens feels right to me. I love the idea that people may ask themselves ‘is it manmade or is it natural?'”

The fashion world and Interior design world are always connected. They come hand in hand, season by season. Take a look at our two shopping days, one in the fashion market and the other in the interior design market, for early fall trends.. same styles...same trends...Fall 2017!!!

A HOME ...THREE YEARS IN THE MAKING

Once in awhile I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor when it comes to constructing a brand new home for a lovely family. This amazing project was my ideal.

We started planning this light-filled, 6,100-square-foot dream home in Roslyn New York, three years ago. This was a team effort. From the drawings by esteemed architect Michael Wallin to the actual building by Robert Beer everything was a collaboration.

My clients basically knew what they wanted ... a forever home that was luxurious yet suitable for their two young children and two loving dogs. They wanted a unique one-of -a- kind modern home that was equally sophisticated yet young and fun. My job was to make sure they were happy, comfortable & excited by the design.

The following are a few of the rooms completed so far...

TRENDING: 2017

Happy New Year and welcome 2017!!! We are excited about the New Trends coming this year. Let's start with Pantone 'color of the year 2017' GREENERY! We are finally seeing a lot of COLOR! The Dreary Age is over.......In the past people have been scared out of their wits by color. Grays, browns and neutrals were the only shades people felt 'SAFE' to use. Now, modern doctors believe lively and upbeat colors have a strong affect on our mental happiness!

Some of the other fun new trends that we are seeing are:

3D Printed furniture!!! This is SO cool. We are seeing benches, consoles , and chairs developed in a 3D printer . Obviously they are mostly made out of a high tech plastic for now. No more long lead times!

Chalk finishes are another trend. Everything from lighting fixtures to paints to appliances are just a few examples....

There are fabrics and wall-coverings filled with dots, splashes (as in paints) and free flowing colors. Checks and plaids are making a return in new ways.

New again in floors are Cork and Terracotta ..Cork is also moving back into other areas such as wall-covering. Art inspired wall covering is also huge as in a full scale pattern taking up the whole pattern.. As in this example ...

Another Trend is Matte Black appliances and hardware. It is a modern twist to the traditional stainless steel, and adds a softer and warmer feel to the room. With the new palette of jeweled toned cabinetry, matte black blends better than stainless steel. We're moving on from the shinier metals, and keeping the look understated!

These are only a few of the new trends for 2017! We will report on more as the year progresses..

TRENDING: CLASSY CURVES

This Fall, while visiting What's New What's Next at NYDC, a common trend that we kept seeing at many showrooms were beautiful, classy curved edges which we absolutely adore!  Not only do curves bring a softness into the room, it also creates a more comfortable sexy feel! A new research has shown that curved, rounded furniture has been linked with positive emotions, greater productivity and creativity! Curvy frames are a great way to maximize your space, but still keeping it beautiful.........Here are a few of our favourites we found!!!

NEW PROJECT FOR A NEW SEASON

Once in awhile, I am lucky enough to be asked to design a space in a NYC building that I adore. Huys is just such a building.  Located in the heart of NoMad , on Park Ave South, Huys is a neoclassical building dating from 1917.  This building underwent a huge conversion from commercial offices to 58 luxurious and elegantly detailed condominiums .  It was designed by the world-renowned Piet Boon . This charming apartment is a pied a terre for a lovely couple that actually live upstate NY. I am very proud of how it turned out. I very much enjoyed designing the interiors, I hope you enjoy seeing the results!

A Day In The Hamptons!

Summer is finally here and the place to be in New York is the Hamptons! Hamptons style is about natural beauty, simplicity, lightness and elegance. An escape from the city!

We are currently working on a beautiful Hamptons home . We spent the day shopping for mainly finishing touches and accessories.  In town, there are many fun shops where you can find gorgeous items, to finish up the job!

NEW PROJECT IN NOMAD, HUYS BUILDING

Located in the heart of NoMad , on Park Ave South, Huys is a neoclassical building dating from 1917, with neighboring stately mansions from NYC's Gilded Age. This building underwent a huge conversion from commercial offices to 58 luxurious and elegantly detailed condominiums . Developed by the prestigious Dutch Kroonenberg Groep, designed by the world-renowned Piet Boon and renovated by the well-established construction management firm Sciame. Huys is one of the my favorite buildings. This is one of the incredible apartments I was asked to design. The amazing iron windows and light brushed oak floors were already in place.  Photo Credit: Beckerman Photograpy

GLORIA VANDERBILT "A RETROSPECTIVE"

Last night was the gallery opening of the Vanderbilt exhibit. It was a very festive ,fun evening at The NYDC, 200 Lex. What I liked best about the art was that it told the story of Vanderbilt's life.  She was animated and beautiful last night. It was very exciting to see Anderson Cooper, Kelly Ripa and all the other celebrities! Vanderbilt has led a VERY interesting life. I can't wait to read her new book "The Rainbow Comes and Goes" ...

RAVISHING ANTIQUE / VINTAGE EYE CANDY

One of the real bonuses of working in this field is watching the clever, creative, gifted  people (I happen to know) come up with incredible new ideas. One such idea was the first brick and mortar space for the online giant 1stdibs. Jim Druckman was the genius behind it!

This all took place years ago. 1stdibs is now a destination for many designers and collectors alike. It is an eclectic mix of over 54 different dealers from around the country and world that occupy the entire 10th floor of 200 Lex  in 33,000 sq feet of space. It is one of my special,  wonderful secrets. There is ALWAYS something new and exciting here!!!!  The following are just a few of my latest favorite things....
